Someone invited you to share their Microsoft 365 subscription

The owner of a Microsoft 365 Family​​​​​​​ or Microsoft 365 Premium subscription can share their benefits with up to five people. Accepting this invitation grants you access to the subscription benefits including 1 TB of personal OneDrive storage and desktop apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Once you accept and join their shared subscription, you will automatically be added to their Microsoft Family group. If you're in another family group, you'll have to leave that one first before you can accept this invitation.

Notes: 

  • A Microsoft family group is a feature that helps families stay connected and manage digital safety across Microsoft services. It’s especially useful for households with children or shared devices.

  • If you're the owner of the Microsoft 365 Family or Microsoft 365 Premium subscription and you want to learn how share it with someone, see Share your Microsoft 365 Family subscription.

  • AI features and extended storage are only available to the subscription owner with and cannot be shared with additional Microsoft 365 Family​​​​​​​ or Microsoft 365 Premium members. 

  • Microsoft 365 isn't available in all markets.

How to accept a Microsoft 365 subscription shared with you

Step 1. Accept the invitation and start using Microsoft 365

  1. When you receive the email inviting you to share someone's Microsoft 365 subscription, select Accept.

  2. Select Join now to accept the invitation to join your family group.

Step 2. Start using Microsoft 365

  1. To start using Microsoft 365 and Office apps, click on the Start using Microsoft 365 apps button.

  2. Select the Install button and follow the prompts. For step-by-step help to download and install the apps, see Sign in to download and install Office on a PC or Mac.
